Let’s face it, anyone can lift themselves up if they really want to. Hard work pays off and there are always jobs to be had. This, of course, means that there is a certain amount of laziness involved in being poor. And if that were true then the average African women would be a billionaire. They’re not.
Poverty is not laziness, genetic or a choice – it’s a by-product of the world we’ve built for ourselves. Some people are better at it than others. Some people don’t understand it at all and some people got a pretty big head start. The question here is not how to make everyone wealthy or how to spread the wealth equally. The question is how low are we willing to let those who are not succeeding fall? What kind of life are we willing to let the people struggling hardest live? How low is Zero?
